A Rainbow of Hope at DUT

A Rainbow of Hope at DUT

DUT staff and students coloured their hair in all colours of the rainbow for cancer awareness. The Cansa Association of SA hosted a Shavathon on the Durban Steve Biko Campus where students’ and staff’s hair was sprayed in an array of colours or shaven for R25 which will go towards he fight against cancer.

“Cancer affects families. We all know of someone who has it. We felt it important to support today’s cancer drive because it is an increasing concern, plus the fact that it makes us look really funky. We would like to see more drives like these around campus and give our support,” said Noluthando Shabangu, a third year Management student.

Lihle Mzobe, also a third year Management student, also said supporting the fight against cancer is important, saying many people suffering from it cannot afford medication. “It can be anybody’s struggle and I feel like my R25 was well spent. Given the chance, I would do it again,” she said.

Parushka Mudaly, a first year Food Technology student, said her cousin suffers from cancer and is well aware of the struggles associated with the disease. “I would encourage others to support the cancer drive as well. It’s worthy cause,” she said.
