Academic Programmes notice 2018

NOTICE TO ALL STUDENTS

13 February 2018

Dear students

DUT is excited to finally welcome all first year students to campus and all returning students back to the University.

As you know, we have had to delay the start of your academic year following the staff strike. Unfortunately, the staff strike is still continuing so this will impact on the normal operations of the University and it could also affect your lectures.

To the best of our knowledge, these are the programmes that will be affected by the staff strike. If you have registered for one of these courses, please do not arrive for your class. Kindly review the list below and take careful note of the programmes that remain closed and those courses that will start. We will inform you once the remaining programmes are ready to start.

Please note that in the list below, green indicates that lectures have commenced but could still be affected by the staff strike. Red indicates that classes have been suspended and orange indicates some activity is planned.

Faculty of Accounting & Informatics

Lectures have commenced in these programmes but there could still be exceptions due to the ongoing staff strike:

  • Information Technology (IT)
  • Taxation
  • Internal Auditing
  • For all the other departments, we will advise you once lectures commence.

Faculty of Arts and Design

The commencement of lectures in the following departments will be delayed until further notice:

  • Drama
  • Fine Art
  • Language Practice
  • Translation & Interpreting Practice

Lectures have commenced in these programmes but there could still be exceptions due to the ongoing staff strike:

  • Fashion & Textiles
  • Interior Design
  • Jewellery Design
  • Journalism
  • Graphic Design
  • Photography
  • Video Technology
  • Extended Curriculum Programme (ECP): Interior Design, Fine Art and Jewellery Design
  • The School of Educationcommenced its First-year B Ed Orientation on Tuesday, 13 February 2018.
  • Lectures for all B.Ed. students start on Thursday, 15 February 2018.

 

Faculty of Applied Sciences

Lectures have commenced in these programmes but there could still be exceptions due to the ongoing staff strike:

  • Horticulture
  • Clothing management
  • Food Nutrition Consumer Sciences (partially)
  • Maritime: academics will provide 2nd and 3rd years with study guides and tutorials and thereafter close

 

The commencement of lectures in the following departments will be delayed until further notice:

  • Statistics
  • Mathematics
  • Biotechnology
  • Food Science
  • Textile Technology
  • Sport Studies
  • Physics

 

Faculty of Engineering & the Built Environment

The commencement of lectures in the following departments will be delayed until further notice:

  • Lectures in the department of Town and Regional Planning have been suspended until further notice.
  • Lectures have commenced in other programmes.

 

Faculty of Health Sciences

The commencement of lectures in the following departments will be delayed until further notice:

  • Basic Medical Sciences
  • Biomedical Technology
  • Child and Youth Care
  • Clinical Technology
  • Environmental Health
  • Radiography
  • Undergraduate Nursing

Faculty of Management Sciences

The commencement of lectures in the following Departments will be delayed until further notice. However, they are still open for registration:

  • Department of Operations and Quality Management (Full-time lectures)
  • Department of Hospitality and Tourism
  • Department of Public Management Law and Economics (Riverside Campus)
  • Department of Ecotourism (Riverside Campus)
