AN ASPIRING CHIEF HUMAN RESOURCES OFFICER EXCELS IN HER STUDIES

An aspiring Chief Human Resource Officer (CHRO), Banele Mqadi (23) from Ezingolweni, KwaZulu-Natal graduated Cum Laude and the Dean’s Merit Award for her Advanced Diploma in Human Resource Management (HRM) on Monday, 29 May 2023 at the Olive Convention Centre (OCC).

Her journey at DUT began in 2019 when she enrolled for her National Diploma in Management Sciences; HRM. Mqadi believes that the transition from high school to university can be quite the challenge. Adapting to a new environment, systems, and new people but she thanked God for paving her way which led to greener pastures.

However, through God and the help of her lecturers and the department as a whole she made it through, she successfully completed her National Diploma in HRM in 2021 and graduated Cum Laude. Mqadi believes that DUT has a great academic support system, the lecturers are always available for consultations and they really go out of their way to assist students. “What I really love about DUT is the fact that, they do not only want to see you grow academically but they also want to see you grow as a person and that is a really great value,” she said.

Due to the high unemployment rates in South Africa, in 2021 she decided to further her studies and got enrolled for her Advanced Diploma of which she also graduated Cum Laude and obtained the Dean’s Merit Award today.

For Mqadi, Human Resource Management has been always her first choice of study, she chose it because she knew that she wanted to make a difference in the Human Resource field and also wanted to work with people. She has always been interested in employee relations. She also chose the course because it is a diverse field and filled with so many opportunities to make a positive impact.

“Time management was my biggest challenge, and I really struggled with time management since my first year. However, I was determined to make a change and to improve myself. So, I invested more in my studies and used the Cum Laude and the Dean’s Merit Award as my motivation because I always aimed high in my academics. I always pushed myself because I knew that anything is possible and I will achieve these goals. With every goal, a plan must be in place, so I formulated a plan on how I would achieve my academic goals and I stuck to the plan and saw it through. I am happy that I achieved my goals and graduated for my Advanced Diploma in Management Sciences HRM with Cum Laude and obtained a Dean’s Merit Award for the second time,” said Mqadi.

Mqadi is planning to further her studies and get enrolled for her Postgraduate diploma in HRM but the goal is to reach the PhD level. She is aiming to become a leading Chief Human Resource Officer (CHRO).
