An Electrifying Atmosphere at Midlands April Graduation

Packed to its capacity with an electrifying atmosphere, the DUT Midlands April 2016 graduations began at the FJ Sithole Hall, Indumiso Campus, yesterday (Tuesday, 13 April).

The excitement on the faces of the students and parents were difficult to miss. Department heads proudly praised their students for succeeding as they (graduates) proudly walked on stage to obtain their qualifications.

Graduates from the Faculty of Arts and Design’s School of Education, Faculty of Accounting and Informatics, Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment as well as the Faculty of Health Sciences were all presented with their qualifications yesterday.

In his keynote address, DUT’s outgoing Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Ahmed Bawa, said graduation was not only a day to enjoy but a day of celebration. “I would like to thank you all (students) for your hardwork. This day is a day to enjoy, a day of celebration and a day to remember. We look forward to you leading us into the future because it is really your future,” he said.

Speaking about her celebration plans, Maneli Shinga, a graduating student, said she was meeting other graduates later to celebrate their auspicious day. “We have planned to meet with the girls and we have been posting on social media everyone must know that I did it; I graduated!” she said proudly.

Lindani Mncube, a Nursing BTech graduate who obtained cum laude as well as the Dean’s Merit Award for Academic Excellence said he was going to get together with his family to have a small celebration before he proceeds to meet with his friends.
