Another Year of Success for DUT at the MACE Awards

DUT scooped four merit awards at the Marketing, Advancement and Communication in Education (MACE) Conference held at Sun City recently.

The three-day conference was attended by various institutions of higher education, including Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges from all over South Africa. MACE is a marketing, advancement and communication body that unites all practitioners from these sectors. The conference is aimed at promoting competence, networking, partnerships as well as the advancement of marketing and communications in the institutions which are part of the organisation.
In 2014, DUT submitted eight entries in total including the University’s annual reports, print publications as well as adverts.

The conference and awards ceremony were attended by Portia Redmond, Design Studio Manager as well as Noxolo Memela, the University’s Media Officer.
Alan Khan, the Senior Director of Corporate Affairs at DUT, said he was proud of the achievement, saying it supports the efforts that the Division has made with its marketing and communication plans. “This is the third consecutive year that MACE has recognised DUT, and whilst there is always room for improvement, receiving accolades from our peers within higher education in South Africa is a confidence booster,” he said.

The MACE excellence awards gives recognition to universities and Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges that set the tone in the field of marketing, communication and fundraising.

DUT’s MACE awards are as follows:

– Internal Printed Publications: Annual Research Report 2012- Merit Award
– Print Advertising: Alumni: In Flight Publications- Merit Award
– Broadcast Advertising: Radio Advertisements: Student Recruitment- Merit Award
– Print Advertising: Student Recruitment- Merit Award

Khan further added that his Division did not market DUT for awards but however promoted the University because they were proud of what the University had to offer students, parents, alumni and staff. “I want to congratulate our team at Corporate Affairs for their commitment, dedication and belief in promoting DUT as a student centred university that delivers quality teaching, credible research and consistent support so that we give our students the best foundation to succeed in the world of work.

The support encouragement and advice from the entire DUT community has been an integral part of the success of our marketing plan and key to this has been the leadership and vision of our Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Ahmed Bawa,” said Khan.

DUT Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Prof Ahmed Bawa, congratulated the team for its excellence. “Well done to the team that brings much recognition to the University and it is not surprising that we have moved up the ladder on the brand recognition,” he said.
