MESSAGE FROM CHAIRPERSONS

Dear Delegates
. .
Given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Universities of KwaZulu Natal and the Durban University of Technology (which comprise the local organising committee of the 48th Annual Conference of the Anatomical Society of Southern Africa) has been forced to cancel our in-person meeting in Durban, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa that was scheduled from the 18th-21st April 2021. Instead, the congress will adopt a virtual format on 19th and 20th of April 2021. The committee has managed to prepare a program which, we trust will meet with the expectations of a usual congress. Pecha Kucha: Applicable to the theme Medical Education & Anatomical Ethics

  • This style of presentation is completed in 6 minutes and 40 seconds.
  • It uses imagery and efficient use of spoken word to create a seamless, memorable, meaningful and concise presentation.
    • This is done in the form of 20 images (ie., 20 seconds per image).

GUIDELINES FOR YOUR POWERPOINT TEMPLATES

  • The template setup uses 20 slides.
  • Once you complete your presentatiion, you select all slides and then go to Animation, advance slide and set it to 20 seconds.

GETTING THE MOST OUT OF PECHA KUCHA: Tips for creating your presentation

  • Insert images as usual, resizing them to your liking. There should be no text, only images or images with superimposed text on them already (caption images). Best practice is to fill the screen unless using space for emphasis.
  • Avoid writing out a script for your narration. Write a simple outline for the big ideas of each slide.
  • You may also record your narrations within PowerPoint for each slide. But be sure not to “save timings” when you’re done, as that will negate the automatic 20 seconds you put in place previously.

“Each Pecha Kucha” can be a masterpiece, but don’t let “analysis paralysis” grab hold of you. Jump in and give it a try.”
