Radio DUT, the official in-house radio station of the Durban University of Technology, contributed to a vibrant start to the year at the University through its Back to Campus initiative.

The campaign forms part of the various initiatives by RadioDUT to create and share opportunities available to students.

Students from various DUT campuses gathered at the Steve Biko Campus food-court to dance and sing along to the sounds of Sjava, Amanda Black and many other local artists.

The students were also encouraged to showcase their dance moves and other talents to stand a chance of winning food vouchers, stationery and even prospects of winning a prize towards acquiring a drivers licence.

But the event was not just about music and dance competitions. VHK, one of the artists performing, said the Back to Campus initiative was also about assisting students get the necessary tips and tools for coming back to campus along with using the Back to Campus platform to influence positive change.

“Back to Campus is all about trying to assist students get the necessities they need for getting back to class. Our mission for 2017 is to advocate for positive social change, create and share opportunities and to celebrate local art,” he said.
Like all the other students, Bongani Makhanya, second-year Accounting student, said he had been looking forward to the initiative (Back to Campus) and that he was very excited it was finally happening. Makhanya said what he liked the most was that the event brought positivity to being at DUT.

Johns Schwarmas, Karrim’s Snacks, Alpine Foods, DUT HIV/AIDS Centre, Jolly Snacks and Terrence Driving School sponsored the event.
