Jared Naidoo credits his Accounting teacher, Mr A Rajoo from Greenbury Secondary School, as a key inspiration who helped turn his aspirations into reality. Naidoo’s hard work has paid off when he graduated with Cum Laude at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) Autumn Graduation ceremony, held at the Olive Convention Centre on Saturday, 24 May 2025, after successfully completing his Advanced Diploma in Accounting.
A 22-year-old from Phoenix, in Durban’s northern suburbs, draws daily motivation from the former President Nelson Mandela’s inspiring words: “A winner is a dreamer who never gives up” and “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
Naidoo’s journey at DUT began in 2021, marking a new chapter in his life where he took mature steps towards his future. Over the next few years, he navigated the challenges of university life, forming new friendships, choosing his career path, and preparing for the real world. His hard work paid off when he graduated with Cum Laude in 2023, earning a Diploma in Accounting. This achievement sparked a desire to push himself further, leading him to pursue an Advanced Diploma in Accounting in 2024. Reflecting on his four-year journey, Naidoo acknowledges the ups and downs, but also cherishes the unforgettable experiences and lessons learned.
“I strongly associate with DUT living values and principles of integrity, excellence, and accountability, especially in the context of the accounting field. Integrity is the foundation of accounting being honest, ethical, and transparent is essential when dealing with financial information and client trust. I also value Excellence because in accounting, accuracy and attention to detail are crucial. I always strive to meet high standards in my academic work and continuously improve my skills. Lastly, accountability is important to me because as a future accountant, I understand the responsibility that comes with managing and reporting financial data. These DUT values reflect not just who I am, but also the professional I aim to become,” said Naidoo.
Cum Laude for a second time had been an honour that inspired him to continue pushing himself to achieve even more. He said that achieving Cum Laude for the second time felt incredibly rewarding and filled him with a sense of pride and gratitude.
It was a reminder that all the long nights, hard work, and moments of doubt had been worth it. He believed that this achievement was not just luck, but a testament to his consistency, focus, and commitment towards his goals. Naidoo was proud of how far he had come, and it gave him even more confidence and motivation to keep aiming higher. He was also thankful for the support of his family.
Advising first-year student , Naidoo said believing in themselves and always remember that nothing is too difficult for them to achieve, do not be afraid of new challenges and never ever doubt yourself. “With the right mindset you will always achieve your goals,” he said.
Currently, he is working and serving SAICA articles as an auditor at Moore Stephens. This role is a vital steppingstone in his journey, providing the practical experience necessary to meet the requirements and ultimately achieve his goal of becoming a Chartered Accountant.
He expresses gratitude to his lecturers, who provided support and guidance, helping when needed and fostering an encouraging environment throughout his time at DUT.
