CAREER RESOURCE CENTRE WENT ON A TWO-WEEK CAREER EXPO TOUR IN THE NORTHERN KZN

The Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) Student Counselling Career Resource Centre, together with Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, KwaMsane local municipality, a graduate from the local community area of Mtubatuba area and the National Youth Development Agency recently hosted a successful two-week interactive and informative Career Expo Tour.

The career expo was intended to provide career information to schools in the deep rural areas of Kwa Zulu-Natal and to aid the process of facilitating nature conversation awareness campaigns to the youth, whilst promoting the importance of conserving the environment. The programme covered various areas in the northern KZN ranging from numerous districts in and around Didima, Bergville and the Drakensberg. The programme also covered the following areas, Hluluwe-Imfolozi, KwaHlabisa, Mtubatuba as well as Ulundi to spread awareness about the importance of making relevant and informed career decisions.

During the first week of the Career Expo more than 500 learners were present in the different schools. The schools that were visited are as follows, Mhlwazini Secondary School, Bambazi High School, Nqobile Combined School, Sokesimbone High School, Marumbuka High School and Isibuko High School. A total number of 513 learners benefited from the programme.

The second week of the career expo was a success, more than 400 students were present and were afforded the opportunity to engage and interact with the team of service providers and receive vital information about careers, funding opportunities and work opportunities that are available to them as prospective students. The schools that were approached during the second leg of the programme are Manzimhlope Secondary School, Esiqiwini High School, Shiyinkosi High School, Nhlungwane High School, Mewombe High School, Godloza High School and Mthunziwoxolo Secondary School.

The career expo tour was a success and the Career Resource Centre is looking forward to facilitating more career outreach programmes in the near future.
