In the quiet rural setting of Ixopo, a small village nestled amidst nature’s embrace, a young woman’s journey began. Celimpilo Soni, a self-driven individual, embarked on a path of education that would ultimately lead her to remarkable achievements. Her story is not just about academic success; it is a testament to resilience, determination, and the unwavering pursuit of dreams against all odds.
Celimpilo Soni (20) is a student from the Durban University of Technology (DUT), Faculty of Accounting and Informatics, Department of Management Accounting. She graduated Cum Laude for her Diploma in Management Accounting at the DUT 2024 Autumn Graduation which took place at the Olive Convention Centre on Thursday, 23 May 2024.
Soni’s educational journey commenced at Mazongo Primary School, where the seeds of curiosity and ambition were sown. From the quaint classrooms of Springvale, she transitioned to Georgetown High School, where her academic prowess began to flourish. In 2020, armed with a matric certificate adorned with a bachelor pass, Soni set her sights on higher education that poised to conquer new horizons.
The next chapter of her journey unfolded at DUT, where she pursued a Diploma in Management Accounting. Like any formidable quest, her time there was marked by a tapestry of experiences from triumphs to tribulations. The challenges she encountered served as stepping stones, shaping her character, and fortifying her resolve. Through perseverance and courageousness, she navigated through the academic web, emerging victorious.
“Graduating Cum Laude was not merely a recognition of academic excellence it was a testament to Soni’s firm commitment and diligence. It signified the culmination of countless hours spent poring over textbooks, the resilience displayed in the face of adversity, and the sheer determination to succeed against all odds,” she said.
She explained that it was a moment of triumph, not just for her, but for her family and community, who have steadfastly supported her on this journey.
Soni’s journey was not without its share of challenges. Balancing academic pursuits with family responsibilities, especially during times of illness, tested her resilience. The weight of these responsibilities often threatened to derail her focus, yet she persevered, fuelled by her determination to succeed.
The road to graduation was paved with moments of doubt and uncertainty, particularly during periods of intense exam anxiety. Yet, Soni confronted these challenges head-on, armed with courage and determination. Her belief in her abilities propelled her forward, guiding her towards the light at the end of the tunnel.
Armed with her diploma, she harbours aspirations of becoming a chartered accountant, a goal that she is determined to pursue.
Speaking to Soni on what advice she has to fellow students, she echoed the wisdom borne from her journey.
“Tough days are part of life. Don’t quit but reboot and start afresh because you can do anything that you put your mind to.” This is a reminder that resilience and determination are the keys to overcoming life’s obstacles, and that success is within reach for those who dare to dream,” she said.
As Soni looks towards the future, she remains undeterred by the challenges that lie ahead. Despite facing financial obstacles and unresponsive bursary applications, her spirit remains unbroken. For Soni, the journey is far from over it is just the beginning.
