Consistency earns Mabizela Cum laude and Deans Merit

A course that DUT’s Silindile Mabizela had no interest in, has proven to be the best choice she has made in her education career.

When Mabizela embarked on doing a National Diploma in Public Management and Economics little did she know that she will excel academically. “When I matriculated I just registered for any course that was at my disposal because I did not want to stay at home. Public Management and Economics was never my first choice but a decision that I was led by fate into,” said Mabizela.

Mabizela, who hails from the small dusty Bergville graduated Cum laude and Deans Merit in Public Management and Economics during the Midlands second day (26 April 2017) of graduation. Enrolling for Public Management was a matter of doing the course for a year than later changing to her original first choice, however, she ended up loving being in the program.

“Although I had no interest in Public Management and Economics, the moment I started doing the course I fell in love with it. I realised that I had undermined it (PME) without knowing how broad it is. It has provided me with the opportunity to learn so much about government both politically and administratively,” she said.
With the sudden love gained into the course during her first year, Mabizela’s excelled in her academics and saw herself being awarded a bursary. “The bursary motivated me to make sure that the standard of my work is consistent throughout my years of study,” added Mabizela.
