The Durban University of Technology (DUT) is gearing up to host the 2023 Autumn Graduation Ceremonies which will be held at the Indumiso Campus Hall in Pietermaritzburg from Monday, 15 May 2023 to Wednesday, 17 May 2023. The Durban graduation ceremonies will be hosted at the Olive Convention Centre from Monday, 22 May 2023 to Wednesday, 31 May 2023.
A total number of 8122 students from the Midlands and Durban campuses will be graduating. Once again, women dominate the list of DUT graduands with over 61% who will be receiving their qualifications. That means, a total of 4977 women and 3145 men will be graduating during the 33 individual ceremonies.
In total, 7457 graduands will obtain their undergraduate qualifications while 665 will graduate with their postgraduate qualifications. The Faculty of Management Sciences has a total number of 2909 graduands, the Faculty of Accounting and Informatics will have 2648 graduands, followed by the Faculty of Arts and Design with 724, alongside 690 graduands from the Faculty of Applied Sciences, 633 graduands from the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment and 518 students who will be graduating from the Faculty of Health Sciences.
The graduation schedule with the relevant details of the upcoming ceremonies is available on the DUT website: www.dut.ac.za. On a daily basis, there will be a maximum of three graduation sessions; Session 1 at 09h00, Session 2 at 14h00 and Session 3 at 18h00. It is crucial that all graduands know exactly which session they will be graduating and arrive early at the venue. DUT will be livestreaming all 33 ceremonies via the DUT website.
The Faculty of Health Sciences will confer an Honorary Doctoral Award to the distinguished health expert, Professor Salim Abdool Karim, who will be present during Session 1, on Wednesday, 31 May 2023. Professor Karim has made a name for himself as the South African clinical infectious disease epidemiologist, widely recognised for scientific contributions to the prevention and treatment of HIV. During the outbreak of COVID-19, he often shared his expertise on the virus, in his capacity as the Chairperson of the South African Ministerial Advisory Committee on COVID-19.
The Autumn Graduation Ceremonies in Midlands will be officially constituted by DUT Chancellor, Ms Nonkululeko Nyembezi and the Durban ceremonies will be officially constituted by DUT Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Thandwa Mthembu. The University congratulates all DUT graduates and wish them well as they become adaptive graduates who will participate productively in the development of our region, the country and the world.
