Deans Merit for IT Fanatic

Fascinated Information Technology student, Rene Chunilall had no doubt he will succeed if he registered for this course at DUT, and, he did.

Chunilall graduated Cum Laude with a Deans Merit on Thursday evening (11 May 2017) at the Fred Crookes Sports Centre during the faculty of Accounting and Informatics graduation ceremony.

“My calling is in IT, the course has positively influenced my life and drove me to introspect not only my academics but even my personality,” he said.

Growing up in Seatides (North of Durban), he grew up as a young man with a low self-esteem and ended up in a lot of trouble but when in grade 10 he decided on IT as one of his subjects, little did he know that his life would change for the best. “I grew up as a naughty kid, I had to be that way so that my low self-esteem could not be noticed. I spent most of my years worried about what people thought of me, but when I started developing stuff about computers and computer systems, my focus started shifting and I developed this kind of unbelievable niche, that is when I knew IT was definitely for me,” added Chunilall.

The young man said he could not have succeeded had it not been the supportive structure he had from his family and his lecturers.
