The Department of Management Accounting at the Durban University of Technology (DUT), under the leadership of Dr Zwelihle Nzuza, is proud to announce that it has achieved full accreditation from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (AICPA-CIMA) for the prestigious Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) Professional Qualification.
This esteemed accreditation places the department, which is part of the Faculty of Accounting and Informatics, among a distinguished group of globally recognised institutions that exemplify academic excellence and industry relevance. It is also a testament to the department’s ongoing commitment to maintaining high academic standards and advancing the goals of DUT’s ENVISION2030 strategy.
AICPA-CIMA is the world’s largest professional body of management accountants, and the AICPA-CIMA designation is a mark of distinction for accounting professionals worldwide. By earning this accreditation, the university and department prove its commitment to providing students with a globally competitive education aligned with industry standards. Therefore, this achievement offers immense value to DUT students pursuing careers in management accounting, business, and finance.
One of the key benefits is that students enrolled in the accredited programmes will now qualify for exemptions from specific AICPA-CIMA modules, depending on the qualification they have completed at DUT. This accelerates their path to becoming AICPA-CIMA professionals by reducing both the time and costs they would have spent if they had pursued this journey on their own.
“The accreditation not only enhances the credibility of our department but also directly empowers our students by placing them on a fast-track route to global professional recognition,” said Dr Nzuza.
The Executive Dean of the Faculty of Accounting and Informatics at DUT, Professor Oludayo Olugbara, congratulated Dr Nzuza and the Department of Management Accounting for this significant milestone.
“This accreditation reflects the continuous efforts to uphold academic quality, enhance graduate outcomes, and support DUT’s vision of being a globally recognised university of technology,” said Professor Olugbara.
