DEPARTMENT OF SPORTS ADMINISTRATION HOSTS COACHING CLINICS

The Department of Sports Administration at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) recently hosted coaching clinics at KwaDinabakubo Secondary School at Molweni, Durban.

This initiative was in line with the University’s ENVISION2030 of ‘improving lives and livelihoods’. It was also inspired by the wise words of Nelson Mandela: “ Sport has the power to change the world, it has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. Sport can awaken hope where there was previously only despair. Sport speaks to people in a language they can understand.”

A total of 60 learners played netball, aerobics, chess, and indigenous games together with the coaches and DUT staff.

“We are very happy that the department requested to come celebrate the Mandela Day with us, coaching our pupils in netball, aerobics, chess and indigenous games will inspire and sharpen learners’ knowledge and skills,” said the principal, Mr Ngidi.

The Department of Sport Administration gave away:

  • 2 x Netball Balls
  • 2 x Football balls
  • 5x Rugby balls
  • 1 x Chess set
  • Netball kit
  • Football kit
  • Each learner received a t-shirt
  • Give away of gifts for competition/quiz winners

DUT’s Pamela Magubane, Administrative Assistant at the Department of Sports Administration said that they were happy to host such an event because Mandela Day is about giving back, and they had an incredible day. She further explained that the event helped in increasing higher employee satisfaction because a common cause for the greater good is an excellent way to bring employees together to make a difference as a team. She also mentioned that it also assisted with recruitment.
