DISCUSSING INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

The KwaZulu-Natal Regional Office Of Technology Transfer (KZN-R-OTT), in partnership with DUT, MUT, UniZulu and IMG_2554UKZN, hosted the fourth Regional IP Awareness Seminar at the DUT Hotel school Conference Centre, Ritson Campus, recently.

The KZN-R-OTT supports tertiary institutions to be better equipped in performing technology transfer and also commercialises their ideas for research and development.

“The aim of IP protection is to make sure that the owner of intellectual property maximises the commercial gain from their intellectual property so that if other people are infringing on their property, the owner can be protected in court,” said Dr Mlondo from the KZN-R-OTT.

“We assist undergraduate students with advice about intellectual property and starting their small businesses. We assist them on the legal aspects to entrepreneurship and we assist post graduate students the same. We also go further by helping them protect their research ideas,” added Dr Mlondo.
