Meet Project Officer (PMB), Ayanda Dlungwane, a driven and passionate third-year student from Pietermaritzburg who is making a meaningful impact at the Durban University of Technology (DUT). At just 22 years old, she has stepped into a leadership role with confidence, guided by strong values of integrity, accountability, and honesty.
While pursuing her Diploma in Business Administration, Dlungwane balances her academic responsibilities with her commitment to serving fellow students, proving that leadership and scholarship can go hand in hand.
Dlungwane’s journey into student leadership is rooted in a desire to create a positive and supportive campus environment. She believes that university is not only about earning a qualification but also about personal growth, connection, and making a difference.
“I am passionate about academic excellence, which keeps me focused on my studies, and I am dedicated to student development, actively engaging in initiatives that uplift others. Whether I am participating in student programs, organizing activities, or contributing to community-based projects, I always show up with enthusiasm and a willingness to serve,” she said.
Describing herself as respectful, accountable, and dedicated, she lives out these qualities in her daily interactions. Dlungwane is known among her peers for her approachable nature and her ability to listen attentively. Rather than simply leading from the front, she believes in walking alongside others, ensuring that every voice is heard and valued. Her leadership style is inclusive and empowering, encouraging students to step forward, share their ideas, and take ownership of their own growth.
Her message to fellow students reflects her mindset and values: “Lead with integrity, trust your voice, and embrace every opportunity to grow.”
These words are not just advice she shares they are principles she applies in her own life. She understands that leadership comes with challenges but views each obstacle as an opportunity to learn and improve.
A fellow student, Sphumelele Sibiya from Riverside Campus, shares, “Dlungwane always listens, encourages us, and leads by example. She truly makes a difference on campus.” This testimony highlights the genuine influence she has on those around her, not only as a leader but also as a peer and role model.
As a student leader, Dlungwane has clear goals for her term. She aims to strengthen student engagement by creating more platforms for interaction and collaboration. She is also committed to support student growth, both academically and personally, by advocating for resources and opportunities that benefit the student body. Most importantly, she strives to amplify student voices, ensuring that their concerns, ideas, and aspirations are represented.
“I believe that determination, integrity, and a strong sense of purpose can create a lasting impact, and through my journey, I hope to inspire others to lead with confidence and contribute meaningfully to their communities,” she concluded.
