Dorasamy Makes DUT Proud

The Durban University of Technology alumni, Mala Dorasamy, who has left an indelible mark in the corporate industry in Durban and has now embarked on a new career path internationally.

With her warm smile and charismatic personality, Dorasamy was a well-known employee at the prestigious Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre. Her decision to leave Durban and her position as the former Marketing, Sales and Events Director at the ICC, was not an easy one as she explains.“After 20 years working for an amazing world class organisation and being a part of the opening team that placed Durban on the global map; I am very sad but also excited to be leaving as I believe it is important at the same time that we don’t get comfortable and keep learning and looking for new opportunities to grow personally and professionally.

Dorasamy has taken up the position as the Marketing and Sales Director of the new Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre. Her decision to embark on this new venture was with the blessings of her husband and two children, who are equally ecstatic to embrace a new country as their new home.

Dorasamy believes that having studied (Tourism Management) such a dynamic career choice at DUT played a pivotal role in her success and the University will always be special to her. She is also honoured to be given the opportunity to guide a vibrant, professional and passionate team at the Durban ICC, something that has given her the preparation she needed to utilise her skills overseas.

Even though she is looking forward to sharing her knowledge at her new position she is positive that she will continue her studies in time to come.

Her advice to DUT students embarking in the working world is to obviously work in the field that they are most passionate about so that no day feels like a work day. “Make your life matter and be the change you want to see in the world. Serve and mentor as many people as possible. This is how each of us can shift from ordinary into extraordinary,” she said.
