Dr Lourens an Inspiration to her Students

Dr Lourens an Inspiration to her Students

Inspired by their lecturers to excel, particularly recent Doctoral graduate Dr Melanie Lourens, Human Resource Management students graduated at the Fred Crookes Sports Centre, DUT Steve Biko Campus, yesterday.

The graduation ceremony saw HR students graduating the same time as their biggest inspiration, Dr Lourens, who obtained her Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Management Sciences specialising in Human Resource Management.

Dr Lourens dissertation focused on developing exploratory framework of human capital linked to intellectual capital and knowledge management for a selected university of technology in South Africa. The research design adopted a quantitative paradigm.

Addressing the importance of education for both herself and her students, Dr Lourens said she was not only excited for herself but for her students as well. “This day is just not mine but more about my students. They are a blessing to my department and to DUT,” she said.

Filled with joy, one of Dr Lourens students, Nobuhle Ngcobo, said they were not only motivated by what she (Dr Lourens) was teaching them in class but by the fact that she led by example. “It is an honour and privilege to have someone who has such an impact in us graduating today to be also gracing the stage as a graduate. We are so happy for Dr Lourens and will forever be grateful for the knowledge and values she has instilled in us,” said Ngcobo.
