Dr Emmanuel Kweinor Tetteh is a Research Fellow/Principal Investigator with the Green Engineering Research Group (GERG) at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) under the academic supervision of Professor Sudesh Rathilal.
Dr Tetteh is among other excellent academics nominated in the National Science Technology Forum (NSTF). Dr Tetteh is nominated in five categories; TW Kambule-NSTF Award: Emerging Researcher, NSTF-Water Research Commission (WRC) Award, Innovation Award: Corporate Organisation, Engineering Research Capacity Development Award and the Special Theme Award: Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development.
Sharing the good news with Dr Tetteh was Ms Seipati Moleleki from the NSTF’s Knowledge and Database Management Unit.
“I assumed my outstanding research contribution in the field of SET and innovation in South Africa as a young emerging researcher made them consider my nomination by Professor Sudesh Rathilal,”said Dr Tetteh.
Getting nominated means a lot to Dr Tetteh because it shows that his hardwork is seen and is acknowledged. The NSTF Awards are also known as the ‘Science Oscars of South Africa’. These are the awards that recognises and honours the Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) and innovation organisations in South Africa.
The awards ceremony will be hosted on 13 July 2023. These awards are hosted at Johannesburg and Cape Town simultaneously. This is not the first time Dr Tetteh has been nominated at the NSTF Awards, he was nominated in four categories in the 2021/2022 NSTF’s Awards. Even though, this is not his first time being nominated, he still gets ecstatic and anxious about these awards as they mean so much in the SET field.
“I felt very honoured to secure five nominations in the NSTF Awards considering my hard work over the years and putting DUT on the global map of thriving excellence,” said Dr Tetteh.
Filling out lengthy application forms for each award category were part of the preparations for the awards after accepting the nominations. Career profile, research activities, publications, academic supervision, and current and future project plans were some of the information needed in the application forms. Dr Tetteh said he is eternally grateful to God almighty for making it to this stage at the awards.
Dr Tetteh believes his win at the NSTF Awards will instill tremendous confidence and reflection in emerging researchers in the DUT community who strives for excellence to do more. He extended his gratitude to the members of the GERG team (DUT 2021 best research group) for their commitment and hard work, his family, Pastor Obed Obeng-Addae (CCI, Kumasi, Ghana) and all his loved ones for their unwavering prayers and support. He went on to acknowledge the value of Professor Sudesh Rathilal, Dr Dennis Issac Amoah and Dr Martha Noro Chollom in his research career. He also looks forward to more collaborators and stakeholders to promote green engineering research in the field of water-energy nexus for a sustainable environment.
Also commenting on his outstanding nominations in the NSTF Awards was Prof Motaung, who expressed how proud she is of Dr Tetteh and that his nominations talk to DUT’s ENVISION2030 strategic objectives that highlights that DUT people will be creative, innovative, entrepreneurial and adaptive to the changes of the world.
