DUT ‘ADAPTIVE GRADUATES’ ENVISONED TO BE THE SOURCE OF CHANGE AND ADVANCEMENT

The Faculty of Management Sciences session on Monday, 18 July 2022 saw the conferring of 11 Degree of Philosophy in Management Sciences-Specialising in Business Administration.

The graduates formed part of the Durban University of Technology (DUT) Celebratory Autumn Graduation ceremony at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Durban International Convention Centre (ICC).

As the congratulatory message from the Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Thandwa Mthembu echoes, the institution expects graduates to become model DUT ‘adaptive graduates’ who will unleash their creativity and imagination to become the source of change and advancement.

“By 2030 we will be a vanguard of that change and advancement in society. We see you as an equal partner in this historic voyage we have embarked upon,” he said.

Meet Dr Akinlawon Olubukunmi Amoo. The title of his thesis: Developing measures to improve Employee Engagement in Public Technical Vocational and Educational Training (TVET) Colleges in Gauteng Province, South Africa-An investigation of Antecedent and Outcome Variables.

Dr Vinay Bugwandin, title of thesis: Sustainable Business Strategy for Small and medium Enterprises in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

Dr Lucy Tambudzai Chamba, title of thesis: The influence of Intrapreneurship on Public Sector Organisations: The Case of Parastatals in Zimbabwe.

Dr Nonye Emmanuella Chukwuma, title of thesis: Change Management Leadership and its Impact on Employees’ Resistance to Change:  Case Study of Selected Automobile Companies in Durban Metropolitan Region of KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa).

Dr Robin Gengan, title of thesis: Creative Leadership and Management in the KwaZulu-Natal Film Industry.

Dr Joe Kumbirai Karambakuwa, title of thesis: Influence of Incubation Hubs on Start-Ups in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Dr Dzivhuluwani Mudau, title of thesis: The influence of Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment Policies on Organisational Effectiveness: A Case of South African Companies.

Dr Jey Difference Nyalungu, title of thesis: Exploring Corporate Governance Practices on State Entities: A case Study for uMgungundlovu District Municipality.

Dr Ntokozo Amanda Xaba, title of thesis: An Analysis of Policy Impact and Stream Water Quality Practices on Knowledge, Attitudes and Behaviour Toward Stream Restoration Practices in Umlazi Township, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

Dr Helper Zhou, title of thesis: The Influence of Key Risk Drivers on The Performance of SMMEs in the Manufacturing Sector in KwaZulu-Natal.

Dr Blessing Machona, title of thesis: A Systems Approach for Enhancing Entrepreneurial Leadership in Learning for Zimbabwe: The case of Hibright Science College in Harare.

Besides the first-rate Doctorates that were given, the session also had the conferring of 10 Master’s degrees in the Faculty of Management Sciences specialising in Business Administration.

“May you live all DUT’s values and principles as part of your way of life. That way, you will stand out and be seen to be a distinctive DUT graduate that all will wish to associate with, perhaps employ a partner with on big and innovative projects.

We wish you all the best in your future endeavours. Become the change you have always yearned for,” said Prof Mthembu.
