DUT AND GRADSTAR GAVE NAIDOO THE OPPORTUNITY TO NURTURE HIS TALENTS AT ALL LEVELS

Durban University of Technology (DUT) alumnus Nevesan Naidoo is elated to start a position as a Network Technology engineer at Huawei, a leading global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices.

Naidoo, an Electronic Engineering graduate explained that DUT and being amongst the Top 100 finalists for the 2022 DHL GradStar Awards, shaped his career prospects.

“DUT and GradStar gave me the opportunity to showcase my talent at all levels. Being selected as one of the top 100 students in GradStar has not only boosted my self-confidence but has opened new doors,” he said jubilantly.

Naidoo also worked part-time at DUT as a tutor, tutoring in data analytics and computation, and is also a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society.

Speaking of his time spent studying at DUT, made mention that he immensely appreciated the practical education and opportunities that DUT gave him along with a great foundation to build on.

“My lecturers always related the course to real world situations which is how I stepped into the doors of Huawei from the GradStar programme. The challenges this course presents are always interesting and the support of the department made anything feel possible,” relayed Naidoo.

He added that he had gained extensive knowledge in subjects that interested him.

“It provided and prepared me with the skills and tools to improve my future career as an engineer. One of the most unique things about the engineering Faculty at DUT is the close relationships students have built with the academic staff and the personal interest each lecturer takes with their students. I’m indebted to DUT for their contribution behind my success,” he added.

His advice to future learners is to find their passion within their chosen  field of study and saturate themselves with knowledge like he had.

‘My mentors, right from the beginning identified my strengths and provided opportunities galore to refine them. Have a vision, be consistent and don’t only study to pass but dominate. Consistency and discipline worked for me, I had a goal, knew exactly what I wanted to achieve and I kept pushing,” said Naidoo.
