DUT ATTENDS ENACTUS CELEBRATION IN DURBAN

Durban University of Technology delegates were among a list of emerging young business leaders who attended the Enactus Celebration Breakfast hosted to applaud and celebrate the 2017 National Champions.

The event applauded the University of Venda (UNIVEN) for scooping the national winner’s award and for representing South Africa in London at the Enactus World Cup held in London in September. The event took place at the Durban’s Country Club on the 13th of October 2017.

Enactus South Africa is a national initiative launched in 2001 as a registered section 21 entity, by tertiary Students. Working with leading corporate partners and member universities, Enactus establishes student programs on campuses around the world. With the support and encouragement of their faculty advisors and a local business advisory board, Enactus students deploy entrepreneurial action to improve the human condition and enable sustainable human progress.

“DUT management fully supports Enactus, and is encouraging students to join Enactus as it provides them the necessary support and network to develop their leadership and entrepreneurial skills,”  said  Professor Sibusiso Moyo, DVC: Research Innovation and Engagement.

Moyo was joined by Professor Khehla Ndlovu, DVC: People and Operations who congratulated the winning university for representing South Africa well.

DUT has been a member of Enactus since 2009, and over 70 students have joined Enactus in 2017. Since its inception, over 400 students have gone through the Enactus Program. During this time DUT has scooped several awards for different projects that they have been engaging. The projects undertaken provide a sustainable impact in local communities and has helped students develop networks and practical skills that are useful for their current and future leadership roles.

Every year a selected group of 3,500 students, business and academic leaders from around the globe meet at the Enactus World Cup to showcase their entrepreneurial action and share innovations that change peoples’ lives and create a better future. The event also provides an opportunity to witness ideas assembeled together by future world leaders. Enactus Leadership Teams comprise of 163 students from 25 tertiary institutions across South Africa

Derek Watts, a well-known journalist, sports anchor, and presenter on Carte Blanche, was both a special guest and a programme director at the breakfast event. Jurie Welman, Enactus South Africa Board Chairman, and President, CHEP Africa, India, Middle East (AIME) & Automotive Europe welcomed all guests and congratulated UNIVEN for shining at the Enactus World Cup.
