DUT CELEBRATED TWINS DAY: DOUBLE PORTIONS OF JOY AND HAPPINESS

The registrar at the Durban University of Technology (DUT), Dr Maditsane Nkonoane celebrated National Twins Day with more than 10 sets of twins from both the Durban and Pietermaritzburg campuses on Tuesday, 6 August 2024.

The purpose of the event was to meet, greet and appreciate all the twins or “double troubles” as the registrar would say because he believes that they are truly special. The day also marked the celebration of National Twins Day which celebrates the coming together of twins to share their experiences and to celebrate the extraordinary bond twins have. The array of twins at the special event were elated to meet with the registrar as it was the first time for some of whom were first-year students at DUT.

Dr Maditsane welcomed all the attendees and introduced DUT guests, Mr Sihle Mbanjwa, Senior Psychologist and Ms Indira Singh, Acting Manager at Student Housing, who were present at the brunch. He   further shared that he has great love for the twins who have begun their first year of studies at DUT as he strongly believes that they deserve to be celebrated.

“If you draw inspiration from our ENVISION2030, the first perspective is on stewardship which directs us to deepen a sense of belonging for our students during the student life cycle through an endeavour to be inclusive. We commit ourselves to always pursue an inclusive institutional culture for all our students regardless of their backgrounds and special needs,” said Dr Nkonoane.

He further indicated that next year he has asked for DUT Counselling to help find all twins at DUT so that they can come and celebrate in another special event in the first weekend of August 2025,” added Dr Nkonoane.

He then concluded the event by thanking everyone who had availed themselves for the special event and shared that he is looking forward to next year’s event with the double portions of joy and happiness at DUT.
