DUT Chemical Engineering Department Held Its Annual Merit Awards

The Department of Chemical Engineering gathered to celebrate the academic excellence of 2016 students, at its annual Student Awards ceremony, which was held at the DUT Hotel School, Ritson Campus, on 14 September 2017.

Head of the Chemical Engineering department, Maggie Chetty said, “Recognising the student’s tremendous work is vital as the course is hard and it’s a great achievement to those who have managed to complete it. As a department, we are acknowledging the hard working students in a field that’s very difficult. This serves as a way to show gratitude to those that have done well throughout the year,” said Chetty

Guest speaker at the event and Ph.D. graduate, Dr Bonga Mvelase, emphasized the vital role chemical engineers play in the world today. “The country requires more people like you and you are what the world needs. We are celebrating people who have exercised their potential because it is important to create your foundation whilst you are studying,” said Dr Mvelase.

Students were awarded merit certificates for the top achievers. The top achiever in ND: Chemical Engineering was Damodharan Danielle. Top achiever in BTech: Chemical Engineering was Govender Telisha and in Masters: Chemical Engineering was Benecke Travis Pion.
