The Durban University of Technology (DUT) was named the “Best University” at the Rising Sun 2023 Readers’ Choice Awards, which were held at the offices of the Rising Sun, in Chatsworth, Durban on 14 September 2023.

Established to acknowledge and to recognise outstanding local businesses, the Rising Sun Readers’ Choice Awards featured 50 different categories. The awards reflected the preferences of readers of the Rising Sun.

The afternoon shimmered with glamour, excitement and distinction, as attendees from the nominated businesses convened. DUT was recognised for its academic excellence and its community engagement. DUT’s Marketing Practitioner, Ms Kareeshma Gayaparsad, represented the university at the awards ceremony and proudly accepted the 2023 Readers’ Choice Award on behalf of the entire DUT community.

Mr Vijay Maharaj, the CEO of Rising Sun, voiced his gratitude to all the businesses for their impactful contributions to the community. “I wish to congratulate everyone here today. Your recognition by the community truly signifies your unwavering dedication,” Maharaj commented.
