DUT GCI and RadioDUT Launch Green Wednesday

The Durban University of Technology’s Green Campus Initiative (GCI) and RadioDUT have launched the Green Wednesday initiative which is aimed at spreading awareness on global warming and environmental issues at DUT.

Every Wednesday, GCI will be live on RadioDUT between 12h15 and 12h45pm during the AM to PM show hosted by Neli and Nelson.

“We decided to go on radio to spread the message of preserving our environment and making the DUT community aware of the critical stage our environment and planet,” said Siyanda Dube, DUT GCI Chairman.

The DUT GCI was launched in 2012 and has been active in various projects, including the Annual International Green Campus Initiative Conference as well as the Clean My Campus and Clean my City campaigns. Not only does the organisation focus on recycling, it also focuses on energy saving and sustainable living. Recently, the DUT GCI was part of the University’s (DUT) Journal of Green Economy and Development Conference.

RadioDUT Station Manager, Sibusiso Nxumalo, said the radio station (RadioDUT) saw its involvement in the Green Wednesday initiative as another of making a meaningful contribution to the community. RadioDUT is an online radio station that was launched in 2014. The diverse and vibrant radio station seeks to empower students before, during and after their academic lives. “RadioDUT is not just a youth initiative, it’s a radio station with the vision to make a difference in its community within DUT and those who listen to it online. It takes empowerment to ignite,” said Nxumalo.

The DUT GCI is available on Instagram: dutgci, twitter: @DutGCI and on Facebook: DUT GCI.
