DUT GERMAN EXCHANGE STUDENTS READY TO START THE SEMESTER AT DUT

The Durban University of Technology, Department of International Education and Partnerships (IEP) hosted a successful Orientation Day for German Exchange students.

The event recently took place at the Steve Biko Art Gallery where students were informed about various facilities that are available to them, to further make their stay at DUT pleasant.

International Education Officer, Carol Newman, described the orientation as being very successful. “It went very well. It was quite informative which is good for the students because it gives them a broad understanding of the services that are available to them as students,” said Newman.

Amongst the speakers at the orientation were, Senior Security Officer, John Pillay, Student Counselling Psychologist, Jessica Parker and Student Health Registered Nurse, Sister Nomusa Mhlongo.

Director of International Education and Partnerships, Dr Lavern Samuels, encouraged the students to make the most of this semester. “In the next three months learn all that you can. Explore the culture and learn languages,” he said.

German Business Administration student, Franziska Heilig, describes her experience as being pleasant. “It’s quite different from Germany but it’s a great experience. We have to be open-minded and willing to learn new things,” she said.

The group of exchange students consists of 24 students from Germany, two from France and one from Poland. Under the leadership and guidance of the DUT IEP department the students will be attending and participating in various educational and recreational activities for the next three months.
