The Durban University of Technology (DUT) hosted a Comrades Marathon support table in Cowies Hill, Pinetown to cheer on the runners and greet DUT colleagues, students and alumni, who were running the famous marathon on Sunday, 28 August 2022.

The support table was led by Dr Vuyo Mthethwa, Deputy Vice-Chancellor: People & Operations and several members of the DUT family including the Registrar, Dr Maditsane Nkonoane; Mr Bongani Yengwa, Head of Department: Sports Administration; Ms Sushi Moodley, Vice-Chancellor’s Office and Ms Vasantha Govender, Marketing, PR & Events Manager, amongst many others. The DUT team were up early and stayed warm along the roadside, waiting for the race leaders to arrive.

Professor Fulufhelo Netswera, Executive Dean in the Faculty of Management Sciences at DUT, was at the Moses Mabhida Stadium to welcome home the runners. It was a wonderful day supporting the 2022 Comrades Marathon and DUT congratulates all runners and in particular, DUT staff, students and alumni, who trained hard for the 90km “down run” from Pietermaritzburg to Durban.

Congratulations goes out to South Africa’s Tete Dijana, who won the men’s race in a time of 05:30:38. Well done to Russia’s Alexandra Morozova, who won the women’s race in a time of 06:17:48. Winston Mashele was officially the last finisher to cross the line. He was running in celebration of his second daughter. Sadly, Pierre Lombard, missed the cut-off by just one second.
