DUT HOSTS ESKOM EXPO

DUT HOSTS ESKOM EXPO

On Friday and Saturday last week, DUT hosted the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists where pupils from various schools around KwaZulu-Natal came in their numbers.

The aim of the Eskom Expo is to develop young scientists and researchers and give young people from as little as grades five to 12 the opportunity to explore their talents and ideas and become active contributors to the growth of the country.

The DUT Co- Operative Education Department organised and hosted the event. “We are satisfied with the number of learners that came to the Expo. It is a huge achievement as it’s the first time the Expo is sponsored by DUT and we hope to see it again next year,” said Kelvin Onalo from the Co-Operative Education Department.

Nalini Dookie, the KwaZulu-Natal provincial co-ordinator for the Expo said by participating in the Expo, pupils have the opportunity to find solutions to challenges that they face in their communities, schools, daily lives as well as the environment.

Seena Naidoo, grade 9 pupil at the Durban Girls High School who made a presentation on Bio Electro Engineering said she would like to see herself in medical science in future.

Pupils who will do well at the Expo will represent the province at the aational Expo scheduled between 6 -10 October 2015 at the Johannesburg South African International Science Fair.
