DUT HOSTS OPEN WEEK FOR HIGH SCHOOL LEARNERS

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) commenced its 2024 Open Week on Wednesday, 24 July 2024 at the Fred Crookes Sports Centre, Steve Biko Campus. It is set to end on Saturday, 27 July 2024.

This event, the second since COVID-19, aims to provide Grade 9 and 12 learners with valuable insights into the university’s faculties, departments, and programmes.

More than 100 high schools from KwaZulu-Natal, and a few from outside the province, are expected to participate. Various departments at DUT are actively showcasing their offerings, engaging with both learners and educators to answer questions and provide detailed information.

Mr Alex Mdletshe, DUT’s Student Recruitment Manager, expressed satisfaction with the turnout on the first day. He highlighted the annual nature of the event and its importance in promoting DUT as an institution of choice among future students. He emphasised the strategic timing of the Open Week, particularly for Grade 12 learners preparing for their CAO applications and Grade 9 learners selecting subjects aligned with their career aspirations.

Nomfundo Myeni, a Grade 12 learner at Hunt Road Secondary School in Durban shared her positive experience, mentioning her excitement at discovering numerous intriguing courses offered by DUT. She expressed determination to work hard to qualify for admission at DUT next year.

The Open Week at DUT will continue until Saturday, 27 July 2024 concluding with an opportunity for parents and learners to further explore what the university has to offer. This event serves as a pivotal moment for prospective students to explore their academic and career options within DUT’s diverse academic landscape.
