DUT Hosts SASUF Symposium

The Durban University of Technology library hosted a South Africa-Sweden University Forum (SASUF) satellite symposium at the Hotel School recently. The library symposium was one of a series of events held this year that gathered both researchers and practitioners from South Africa and Sweden, with the overall aim of strengthening ties between the two countries in research, education and innovation.

The library symposium theme was: Innovations in academic libraries and information systems: perspectives from the South and North.

The symposium focused on the theme of Transforming Higher Education Curricula, with presentations addressing issues of literacies, data analytics, ergonomics and technology as drivers on the transformation agenda.

It was well-attended by participants from both public and private higher education institutions, who contributed to robust discussions on the various themes, and also recommended topics to be included in future symposiums. The participants’ engagement during the symposium and their feedback after the event suggest that the symposium was successful and that similar challenges are faced by academic libraries wherever they are situated.

The SASUF initiative promises many opportunities for collaboration and sharing between the two countries. For more information on SASUF and its initiatives, visit http://sasuf.org
