DUT IMPACT

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) has adopted the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework, centred around five core values: transparency, honesty, integrity, respect and accountability. These values are supported by the key principles of fairness, professionalism, commitment, compassion, and excellence. DUT Marketing Public Relations and Events Assistant, Russell Zikhali,  recently engaged in a conversation with  Kwanele Makaluza, an intern in the Finance Unit at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) to delve deeper into the Living Values Framework and ENVISION2030.

 Q: Kindly tell me about your role at DUT?

A: “I work as an intern at the Finance/Assets unit. Also, I am the part of the House Committee of the residence I am registered to, and I serve as a representative of the Qhakaza including the Ladies Network and University of Life Changers. I am also a member of the SWEEP chapter.”

Q: How long have you been a member of the DUT family?

A: “I have been a member of DUT for over five years.”

Q: Amongst the mentioned ENVISION2030 Living Values and Principles, which one do you mostly associate with and why?

A: “I aim for excellence, and I conduct myself with integrity and ensure honesty and transparency in my dealings.’’

Q: What are your views on the new DUT tagline: Creative, Distinctive, Impactful?

A: “It is a true representation of the institution’s stewardship and systems and processes and how DUT engages with society in an impactful manner.’’

Q: How are you planning to keep abreast with the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework?

A: “I align myself with the institutional culture and by abiding with the core values and principles of ENVISION2030.’’

Q: What is the one thing that most people do not know about you?

A: “I am very creative and also the owner of a business.”

Q: In your opinion, how will the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework benefit DUT?

A: “It will prompt the students and members of the institution to live and uphold them, resulting in a smooth flow of management at DUT.”

Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?

A: “I love to binge series or movies but most importantly I love reading books for self development.”

Q: How do you plan to make a positive impact at DUT?

A: “To continue dedicating myself and partaking in institutional projects as well as doing volunteer work.’’

Q: What is your daily motivation?

A: “To be successful and making my family proud is what motivates me.”

Q: What are your future goals at DUT?

A: “My main goal to complete my Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in my academic studies.”

Q: If you were granted one wish, what would it be?

A: “To travel the world and share my life story, revealing how God has become such an integral part of my life.”
