DUT IMPACT

Durban University of Technology (DUT) recently approved the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework. The five values are identified as transparency, honesty, integrity, respect and accountability. The principles espoused are fairness, professionalism, commitment, compassion and excellence. DUT’s Communications team, Nomvelo Zulu spoke to Wesley Ntuthuko Ngcobo, Team Leader: DUT Human Capital Services.

 Q: Kindly tell me about your role at DUT?

A: “My role at DUT is planning the day-to-day operations for the Team Shared Services which I lead. Our team’s core competency is administration duties, however, I do advise on Human Capital Service (HCS) queries when approached.”

Q: How long have you been a member of the DUT family?

A: “I started as a student in this institution, so I have been at DUT for 21 years.”

Q: Amongst the mentioned ENVISION2030 Living Values and Principles, which one do you mostly associate with and why?   

A: “Professionalism stands out for me because it ensures a positive impression, good and successful interpersonal relationships as well as a long lasting reputation within the organisation.”

Q: What are your views on the new DUT tagline: Creative. Distinctive. Impactful.

A: “The DUT new tagline is another step towards the right direction as this initiative emphasizes the ENVISION2030 strategy.”

Q: How are you planning to keep abreast with the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework?   

A: “I will attend the gatherings and read the publications about the ENVISION2030 Living Values, as I believe its aim is to transform the DUT community into a better version. Attending the gatherings and reading more about this initiative will help me to better understand the DUT re-aligned values and principles and how  best to put them into practise.”

Q: What is the one thing that most people do not know about you?  

A: “I am an extraversion kind of person.”

Q: In your opinion, how will the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework benefit DUT?

A: “In my opinion the ENVISION2030 is people-centred. The strategic objective is about nurturing a people-centred culture that embraces DUT values and principles. The re-enforcement of values and principles will help DUT to attract and retain its best staff and recruit its best students as well as highly competitive students output ready for the labour market. The ENVISION2030 will also benefit all members of the DUT community as it further emphasizes how we do things, how we work and clarifies our roles.”

Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?  

A: “I am a gym fanatic. I love playing and watching football. I play in the football leagues. I also do plenty of reading in my spare time.”

Q: How do you plan to make a positive impact at DUT?  

A: “I will continue taking additional responsibilities that are outside of my usual scope of work, I will continue going above and beyond to help colleagues or team members with tasks. I will also fully comply and cooperate with the ENVISION2030 objectives.”

Q: What is your daily motivation?  

A: “My daily motivation is to achieve my personal and career goals.”

Q: What are your future goals at DUT?

A: “I wish to climb the corporate ladder and be part of the DUT that will observe the unfolding of DUT’s ENVSION2030 strategy.”
