DUT IMPACT

Durban University of Technology (DUT) has officially launched the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework, which is anchored in five core values: transparency, honesty, integrity, respect and accountability. These values are further supported by the principles of fairness, professionalism, commitment, compassion and excellence.

DUT Communications team member Waheeda Peters recently engaged in a conversation with Thobeka Thando Nkwanyana, a Research Administrator within the Faculty of Applied Sciences at DUT, to explore the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework.

Q: Kindly tell me about your role at DUT?

A: “I am the Research Administrator in the Faculty of Applied Sciences.”

Q: How long have you been a member of the DUT family?  

A: “I commenced in May 2026.”

Q: Amongst the mentioned ENVISION2030 Living Values and Principles, which one do you mostly associate with and why?  

A: “Transparency, as I believe that being transparent in all interactions carries out all of the core values, ensuring consistency and intentional action.”

Q: What are your views on the new DUT tagline: Creative, Distinctive, Impactful?

A: “It serves as a powerful tagline, meaning as staff members we will live up to this by ensuring we instil creative innovation with a strong solution foundation.”

Q: How are you planning to keep abreast with the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework? 

A: “To embrace transparency and honesty, and to ground my responses in verified institutional frameworks at DUT.”

Q: What is the one thing that most people do not know about you?  

A: “I am a social introvert, I love being around people and learning more from them, but I do love my alone time to introspect and think deeply.”

Q: In your opinion, how will the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework benefit DUT? 

A: “I believe it will strengthen the university culture and the reputation in the DUT community. It will also enhance excellent collaboration with other prestigious organisations.”

Q: What do you like to do in your spare time? 

A: “I am a family oriented person, so spending time with my loved ones is my favourite thing to do.”

Q: How do you plan to make a positive impact at DUT? 

A: “By ensuring to live up to all the core values of the institution and be impactful in transparency, honesty and be accountable for all my actions.”

Q: What is your daily motivation?  

A: “To be yourself and the world will adjust.”

Q: What are your future goals at DUT?

A: “I would like to see myself grow, my primary goal is to learn the culture and values before I encounter growth.”

Q: If you were granted one wish, what would it be?

A: “To see every deserving learner get into the university and experience all the opportunities we have at the institution.”
