Durban University of Technology (DUT) recently approved the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework. The five values are identified as transparency, honesty, integrity, respect and accountability. The principles espoused are fairness, professionalism, commitment, compassion and excellence. DUT’s Communications team, Lethukuthula Ngubane spoke to Nkululeko Mbatha, Communications Administrative Assistant at Corporate Affairs: Communications Unit.
Q: Kindly tell me about your role at DUT?
A: “I work as a Communications Administrative Assistant at Corporate Affairs in the Communications Unit”.
Q: How long have you been a member of the DUT family?
A: “It has been 2 years and almost 9 months”.
Q: Amongst the mentioned ENVISION2030 Living Values and Principles, which one do you mostly associate with and why?
A: “I totally resonate with Accountability the most, because I truly believe in one being accountable in their spaces and engagements. This promotes a progressive environment”.
Q: What are your views on the new DUT tagline: Creative. Distinctive. Impactful.
A: “It is inspiring, short and profound. It is exactly what the institution stands for and it redirects us as the community of DUT”.
Q: How are you planning to keep abreast with the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework?
A: “I believe they are what abides us as the community of DUT, the best we can do is to live by them and teach the next person. We should keep them closer for easy referencing at all times”.
Q: What is the one thing that most people do not know about you?
A: “I am an extremely shy person but I am good in concealing it”.
Q: In your opinion, how will the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework benefit DUT?
A: “The institution is progressive as it is because of the ENVISION2030 Living Values and Principles framework. This proves that DUT will be at a very different level by 2030”.
Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?
A: “I am working on my newly discovered skill which is deejaying. If not compiling music I am surfing the net and reading up on trends”.
Q: How do you plan to make a positive Impact at DUT?
A: “To be highly committed and offer my services in a very professional manner”.
Q: What is your daily motivation?
A: “To do better than the previous day”.
Q: What are your future goals at DUT?
A: “The goal is to not only grow within the institution as a young professional but to also help in grooming the young and upcoming generations that are joining the institution”.
Q: If you were granted one wish, what would it be?
A: “To have a functional life manual”.
