DUT JERUSALEMA DANCE COMPETITION IS NOW ON

DUT JERUSALEMA DANCE COMPETITION IS NOW ON

To foster social cohesion amongst South African learners of all races and different grades, the Durban University of Technology (DUT) established the Spring 2020 New Normal Jerusalema Dance Competition, offering a R10 000 voucher to the winning school. 

Jerusalema 3This competition which is open to all primary and high schools started on Monday, 19 0ctober 2020 and will close on Monday, 9 November 2020. 

Schools that are confident that they have mastered the Jerusalema Dance are invited to enter the competition by filling in the form and by sending their 2 to 4 minutes’ video via WhatsApp on 064 773 1318. 

The required format for the video is MP4 and the dance group should consist of 5 to 10 learners, all from the same school. DUT as a caring university has a responsibility to ensure the safety of the DUT community and the society during the COVID-19 pandemic. To encourage people to continue adhering to the COVID-19 health guidelines, the judges will disqualify videos of learners not wearing face masks. 

Judging will be based on the dance step execution, passion, energy, creativity and team work. 

The top three schools will be awarded the following prizes: 

  • 1ST Prize school will receive a R10 000 voucher and a framed certificate meanwhile each member of the team will take home a branded t-shirt and a R500 book voucher. 
  • 2nd Prize school will obtain a R8000 voucher and a framed certificate. Each team member will receive a branded t-shirt and a R300 book voucher. 
  • 3rd Prize school will get a R5000 voucher and a framed certificate. The members of the team will each be given a branded t-shirt. 

Jerusalema 2Apart from giving prizes to the schools, DUT felt it is important to also have prizes that will go directly to the learners participating in the competition as a token of appreciation for their commitment. 

The selected videos will also be shared on DUT’s official social media platforms.

DUT students recently took on the Jerusalema Dance Challenge that has taken the world by storm and saw people from all over the world uniting and showcasing their dance moves.
