DUT LIBRARY IS HOSTING A NAMING A LIBRARY SEARCH/DISCOVERY TOOL COMPETITION

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) Library has implemented a discovery/search tool called Ebsco Discovery Service (EDS).  It replaces SUMMON, a Google-like search engine that was used by staff and students for finding credible and reliable information sources in the DUT Library since 2012.

“We need your help in choosing a name for the discovery tool! Enter our library competition by sending in short and punchy name ideas that will best describe the current search tool. When you participate in this competition, you also stand a chance to win yourself goodies such as 4GIG USBs, branded pens, playing cards, and many more. The person with the most votes will win a brand new 10-inch screen tablet,” explained Romeo Matumba.

He indicated that entries may be submitted in any official language of South Africa.  The deadline for entries is 16 March 2022.  “We are using this competition to allow the DUT Community to participate in the decision-making process on some of the library’s services and resources,” added Matumba.

Matumba conveyed that the winner will be announced on the DUT Pinboard and the library’s social media pages.

“The winner will be required to take photos when claiming the prize. The competition is only open to current DUT staff and students. Staff employed in the library are not permitted to participate. The voting polls will only include names approved by the library.  In compliance with the POPI Act, your personal information will also be kept confidential,” he said.
