DUT Midlands Campus Students Express their Views on the University Revised Logo

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) has launched a new, revised logo for the institution. Nomkhuleko Thutshini and Sanele Xaba from the Communications Department went to both the Indumiso and Riverside Campuses to chat with students about their thoughts on the revised logo.

Aphiwe Mcetywa (1)Aphiwe Mcetywa, Second-Year Business Administration.

“I am happy that DUT made such a positive change in the institution as there are a lot of people coming from the rural areas that hardly speak English and for them to be included in such a broad way is a good change for me.”

lethokuthula MngadiLethokuhle Mngadi, Third-year Civil Engineering.

“I think its quiet good that we are innovating the name and changing it equally into an isiZulu part because this inspires diversity in South Africa.”

Nontokozo MadideNontokozo Madide, Second-Year Financial Accounting.

“I feel happy that IsiZulu is finally being recognised at DUT as some people usually underestimate the Nguni languages. Even though they did not include all 11 official languages, I am pleased and proud about the change they have implemented.”

Zubenathi Magazi (1)Zubenathi Magazi, Fourth-Year, Civil Engineering.

“I am happy that the DUT logo design is trying to incorporate the Zulu Culture of our university and decolonisation of education. I feel happy that the logo is also a ‘good- looking’ logo and the inclusion of the IsiZulu version is a good idea, even though it doesn’t address the whole issue of decolonisation at DUT, but it’s a good start.”

Mnelisi ThabetheManelisi Thabethe, First-Year Bachelor of Education.

“As a first-year student I am pleased by what I see as they were able to include the isiZulu version in the logo. It shows that there are bigger things coming to our university to bring change.”
