DUT Mourns the Death of Dr Mkhwanazi

Dr Don Mkhwanazi, empowerment luminary and DUT Honorary Doctorate recipient, passed away of a massive heart attack last week.
Dr Mkhwanazi, a businessman and pioneer of black economic empowerment (BEE), was honoured, by DUT in 2014, with a Honorary Doctorate in Management Sciences for his outstanding contribution to the promotion of Black Economic Empowerment in South Africa, his prominent role in local and international entrepreneurship as well as his significant commitment to youth and social development.

Dr Mkhwanazi ran the Black Management Forum in the 1980s and was the first person of prominence to promote Black Economic Empowerment.

“The DUT family was extremely sad to hear about Dr Mkhwanazi passing on over the weekend. Uncle Don was a good friend of our University and he was exceptionally passionate about education in South Africa. DUT was very honoured when he accepted our invitation to receive an Honorary Doctorate a few years ago and whilst he had already played such a pivotal role in South Africa, he was still willing to make a significant contribution to our nation. The DUT community extends its deepest condolences to Uncle Don’s family, friends, comrades and colleagues,” said Alan Khan, Senior Director of Corporate Affairs at DUT.
