DUT NETBALL CLINCHES SECOND PLACE IN THE REGIONAL LEAGUE OPENING TOURNAMENT

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) Netball team started the new year and Regional League 2023 with full force and dedication.

DUT’s Netball Hurricane team recently participated in the Ethekwini Metro Netball Federation Regional League Opening Games, at Hoy Park.

The team dribbled their way into second position and gave it their all but lost out in the final match against Cheetahs Academy who won by 12-10-(DUT).

Melusi Hadebe, DUT Netball assistant coach said it was easy to work with the team because they are hungry for the opportunity and want to grow their career in netball. He also mentioned that players used any opportunity to ask questions to nurture their growth.

“There is an improvement in the team, we have not yet reached our standard/goal as a team; however, we know in time we will get the results we are expecting,” said Hadebe.

He also indicated that it is exciting to have four of the DUT Netball players namely: Percy Nxumalo (goal attacker/wing attacker), Nokwanda Zulu (goal shooter/goal attacker), Aphiwe Thusini (goal shooter), Philile Bokwe (wing defence/wing attacker), selected to represent Kingdom Stars and Queens in the Telkom Netball League, a national league.

Hadebe further shared that the Netball athletes will also be participating in the forthcoming eThekwini District League, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Netball Super League, University Sport South Africa Championships.

“To the DUT population, please support us and show love to the team. We promise to do our best as the Netball team to fly the DUT flag high in every competition we will be participating. We will be representing you with pride as the team belong to you all,” he said.
