DUT NETBALL TEAM EAGER FOR MORE SUCCESS IN 2019

Following a brilliant year which among other things included, winning USSA KZN and finishing second on the USSA National Tournament, DUT Netball Team has set its sight on more accolades in 2019.

During the USSA National Tournament which was held at the University of Johannesburg in June, DUT Netball Team, also known as the Hurricanes, won a silver medal, losing to Varsity College in the Final. This result was followed by the Hurricanes A-Team claiming the third position in the EThekwini Netball Premier League in September, while the Hurricanes B-Team finished position eight in Division 1 League.

Reflecting on the team’s impressive year, DUT Netball Team Manager, Pamela Magubane congratulated the Hurricanes for the impressive displays.

“The coach made everyone fight for their positions this year. Last year it was like a given, you knew that even without training you would start. But now it was about— if you come to training, you play and if you don’t come to training, you don’t play.  It was all about players showing commitment to be part of that first seven to start,” said Magubane.

Magubane further said the decision to create the Hurricanes B-Team this year, provided all the players with an opportunity to grow in their game and will be evident in the coming years since they are considering the option of partaking in the Super League.

“Since DUT now has two Netball teams, we have the A-Team and B-Team. We have now said B-Team will be the only team participating in USSA KZN. For A-Team, we are looking at registering for the Super League,” said Magubane.

DUT Netball team is currently ranked number one in the USSA KZN Tournament after claiming the championship in two consecutive years, both in 2017 and 2018.
