DUT PGA REACHES OUT TO INANDA COMMUNITY

DUT PGA REACHES OUT TO INANDA COMMUNITY

The Durban University of Technology Post-Graduate Association in partnership with the Directorate for Research and Postgraduate support reached out to the Inanda community as part of their outreach programme, on Tuesday, 22 August 2017.

The outreach programme to the Inanda community forms part of the planned activities of the DUT PGA’s social week. The PGA is currently hosting its social week consisting of different activities from the social outreach programme to Inanda, to their PGA annual general meeting which took place on Wednesday, 23 August 2017, at the University’s hotel school and currently on this week is also their sports day at the Fred Crookes Sports Centre, Steve Biko Campus.

The community outreach was aimed at improving the lives of young and senior citizens of Inanda Township. Whilst, the AGM’s primary objective was to engage and create a general umbrella for post-graduate students. “We were able to identify a place where we can make an impact in people’s lives,” said Kunle Oparinde, DUT PGA president.

Every year the DUT PGA hosts a series of events aimed at empowering, developing and guiding post-graduate students. However, the year 2017 the social week took a slight change to its programme.

“The change in our programme comes after my executive and I saw the need to give back to society that is less fortunate then we are, and that is how we came about this whole change in our programme and identified Inanda Township as our place to reach out too,” added Oparinde.

Amongst those that were touched by the spirit of giving was Abahlali Welfare Society, an old age and orphanage home.
