A: “In July 2024.”
Q: What sparked your interest in this type of sport?
A: “I’m a sport fanatic, so when I came across netball and saw how competitive and fast-paced it is, I felt a rush and a deep attraction to it.”
Q: In terms of the position you play, elaborate on what it entails and how it benefits the team.
A: “I’m a defender, mainly playing as goalkeeper. My job is to ensure the shooters don’t score, or to limit their scoring success by pressuring them within the circle.”
Q: Which other sport codes are you interested in and why?
A: “I’m interested in football as it was one of the first sports I was introduced to and succeeded in. However, after countless injuries, I’ve decided that watching it rather than playing is probably better.”
Q: What is the biggest tournament you have participated in?
A: “The biggest tournament I have competed in is the University Sports South Africa (USSA).”
Q: Why is it vital for DUT to develop students in sport?
A: “Some students excel more in sports, and as a prestigious university, developing them in that path can improve overall student success rates in sports.”
Q: Who is your role model and why?
A: “I have a few role models like my father, because through him I learned that everything is within my grasp, and with perseverance and drive I can achieve it all. Also, Lionel Messi as he is the greatest player in the football world.”
Q: Which ENVISION2030 living values and principles do you associate with and why?
A: “Integrity, because believing in a moral code and letting your principles guide you in any situation is vital for me.”
Q: Do you see a future in your netball?
A: “I am on the fence because I’m passionate about what I’m currently studying.”
Q: As a DUT star, how does your role benefit your community?
A: “As a DUT netball player I believe I inspire young people to stay active, promote teamwork and discipline, and to serve as a role model. Beyond the court, I mentor young players and help to build unity in the community.”
Q: What impact has sport made on your life?
A: “Sport has taught me discipline, teamwork, and resilience. It’s shaped my confidence, given me opportunities to travel and experience new things, and allowed me to grow both on and off the court.”
Q: Can you suggest some ideas to attract spectators to varsity sports?
A: “We could introduce themed nights based on popular culture, run interactive fan challenges where spectators can influence in-game decisions, or host mini pop-up events around campus leading up to matches to build hype.”
