DUT SRC LAUNCHES SANITARY PAD CAMPAIGN TO ASSIST DISADVANTAGED STUDENTS

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) Student Representative Council (SRC) is calling on the DUT community to support its Sanitary Pad Campaign recently launched to assist disadvantaged female students at the various DUT campuses.

The DUT SRC General Secretary, Mr Njabulo Ntshaba said the campaign is part of their Women’s Month celebrations and also their way of offering a helping hand to those highly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent looting that took place in the province.

“We are launching this initiative during Women’s Month to empower women and to show that we care. However, we want to sustain it throughout the year, as we want it to be an ongoing project. The DUT SRC has decided to embark on a sanitary towel drive initiative in order to aid students in need on our campuses. COVID-19 has made life difficult for most of us and we need to love and support each other during this challenging period of our lives,” said Ntshaba.

He said as of Wednesday, 25 August 2021, drop off boxes have been made available for donations. In DUT Durban the drop-off boxes are placed at Gate 3 in Steve Biko Campus and ML Sultan main gate. Meanwhile in DUT Midlands the boxes are situated at the main gates of Riverside and Indumiso Campuses.

All those wanting to join this great initiative, including DUT staff and students are requested to sponsor any sanitary towels they can afford. All items must be sealed and be in the original packaging.

The distribution process will be communicated via official platforms of the university in due time.
