DUT SRC President and Executive Graduate

DUT SRC President and Executive Graduate

Echoes of struggle songs were chanted while some ululated and roars filled the DUT Fred Crookes Sports Centre during the graduation ceremony of the Durban University of Technology’s 2016 Student Representative Council (SRC) President, Zama Mncube.

Mncube obtained her National Diploma in Office Management Technology during the Faculty of Accounting and Informatics’ graduation ceremony.

The visibly overjoyed Mncube stole the show when her name was called. Mncube, who was recently appointed to be SRC President, said this is what “fighting for economic freedom in our lifetime” is about.

“We are making education fashionable. We want to lead by example and show all students that getting an education is the right thing to do,” she said excitedly. With Mncube’s graduation, the SRC declared that in unity, it will commit to education akin to the struggle heroes and heroines who dedicated themselves in not only fighting for liberation, but for education as well.

“Our diplomas and degrees will always be dedicated to the late Oliver Tambo, Solomon Mahlangu and Steve Biko to name but a few of our icons who gave it their all for us to be able to obtain them,” said Sanelisiwe Mlisa, Deputy Secretary General of the SRC.

Mncube obtains her qualification ahead of Mlisa who also graduated last week. Both Mncube and Mlisa follow former DUT SRC members Menzi Ngcobo (former Secretary General 2014/15) who also recently earned his Bachelor of Education Degree; Sbongimpilo Dumakude who obtained his Bachelor of Technology degree in Public Management (Former SRC Deputy President 2014/15) and current SRC members Sandile Nene (Secretary General) who obtained his National Diploma in Public Management and Halalisani Nkwanyana (Social Welfare Officer) during the Midlands Campus graduation.
