DUT SRC TREASURER URGES STUDENT LEADERS TO MAKE EDUCATION FASHIONABLE AS HE GRADUATES

A Student Representative Council (SRC) Treasurer at the Durban University of Technology (DUT), AsandaMngomezulu graduated for his National Diploma in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in Applications Development (App Dev) at the DUT Autumn Graduation that was held at Olive Convention Centre (OCC)  this afternoon (24 May 2022).

Mngomezulu who hails from Mondlo, Vryheid is happy to obtain his qualification at the time of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (41R) where the current generation cannot be separated from technology. He also believes that most businesses rely more on ICT to grow and improve their operations.

Mngomezulu is amongst the catalysts who brought transformation and lasting new developments that have enhanced graduates and professional student life at DUT. His role as the DUT SRC Treasurer is to deal with all financial related student issues and also to back up all offices since he forms part of the Executive. As an SRC executive member his responsibility is to assist in managing the day-to-day matters of the SRC, approving and amending the SRC budget, and assisting in important decision making under urgent circumstances.

“The main challenge that I faced as the SRC Treasurer was balancing my academics and office duties, my office is very busy, and it needs more attention. There were times where I felt like giving up, but God kept on giving me the courage to fight,”   said Mngomezulu.

Mngomezulu is currently enrolled in his Advanced Diploma in Information and Communications Technology: Applications Development and he believes that this is just a start as he is aiming continue studying until he reaches a PhD level.

Speaking about his future plans Mngomezulu shared that he wants to be part of the people who contribute more within the Technology Industry. He also wants to change people’s perception about SRC members not graduating in record time or not graduating at all.

He advised students and student leaders to work hard, priorities their studies and make education fashionable.
