DUT TO HOST ITS VIRTUAL GRADUATION CEREMONY TOMORROW

Names of the 7832 graduands who were meant to graduate in April and May 2020 will be published on Isolezwe, Daily News, Ilanga, Msunduzi Eyethu and Public Eye (PMB) newspapers, the next day on Thursday, 11 June 2020.

Students who will be graduating consists of 4480 women and 3352 men. 7692 will be graduating with their undergraduate qualifications whilst 140 will graduate with post-graduate degrees.

The Faculty of Management Sciences has the highest number of graduands, with a total number of 1902. Following close by is the Faculty of Accounting and Informatics with a total number of 1670 graduands. The Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment with a total number of 1040 graduates is next, followed by the Faculty of Applied Sciences with a total number of 718, the Faculty of Health Sciences 693 graduands and the Faculty of Arts and Design with 476 graduands.

“The University was extremely disappointed that the lockdown restrictions, pertaining to public gatherings and events, had prevented us from hosting our traditional graduation ceremonies in April and May. We realised that many graduates would also be disappointed, since graduation is such an important part of their academic journey,” said Khan. He said that the idea behind a virtual graduation ceremony was to create an online event where the DUT Chancellor, Ms Nonkululeko Nyembezi, could still confer the diplomas and degrees and DUT could publish the full graduation roll online.

“Whilst the ceremony will be much shorter than the traditional graduation, the virtual ceremony affords us an opportunity to formally allow all graduands to graduate from DUT. The virtual graduation ceremony will be streamed on the DUT website (www.dut.ac.za) at 12H00, on Wednesday 10 June 2020. The names of all graduates will be published on the website and printed in Isolezwe, Ilanga, Daily News and Msunduzi Eyethu and Public Eye newspapers on Thursday 11 June 2020. Two SABC radio stations, SAFM and 5FM, will also play a delayed broadcast of the virtual graduation ceremony at 13H10 on Wednesday afternoon,” said Khan.

DUT congratulates all of its graduates and we wish them continued success and good fortune in the years ahead.
