More than 600 first year students are expected to be part of The Durban University of Technology’s Wellness Sports Day on Saturday, 17 March 2018 at the Fred Crookes Sports Centre, Steve Biko Campus.

This event will be hosted by the department of Student Housing and Resident Life department. DUT’s Student Resident Assistant (RA), Sphamandla Dlamuka said the Wellness Sports Day is part of their annual programmes aimed at assisting new students to adapt to life at DUT.

“The Wellness Sports Day aims to assist students to adapt to university life, create awareness about different departments within the institution, promote healthy living and an active lifestyle in residences, and to also promote a social life around campus, “said Dlamuka.

Although this event will be hosted by the Resident- Life Sports Committee with the Resident Life Office, it will also be supported by the HIV/AIDS Centre, Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT), Hyper Clean (HC), Isolempilo Clinic, Library Services Department and DUT’s Sports Administration.

“All these DUT stakeholders will give presentations and talks that will equip students with essential information, which will assist them to adapt to the university life and help them to achieve their academic goals,” explained Dlamuka.

Some of the activities that students will participate in include aerobics, basketball, dibeke (Shumpu), egg race, football, netball, power walk, relay and sack race.

Some of the residences that will participate include Berea Residence, Campbell Residence, Steve Biko Residence, Persada Residence, Sterling House, Winterton, Royal Manton and Walsingham.

Dlamuka encouraged students residing in these residences to participate in this event and take advantage of this platform created to assist them to adapt and thrive in the university environment.
