DUT to Participate in the Annual Nelson Mandela Day Career Development Festival

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) will be participating in the Annual Nelson Mandela Day Career Development Festival on Wednesday, 18 July 2018 at the Mandela School of Science and Technology, uMvezo village, uMthatha in the Eastern Cape.

This annual event is hosted in a historic place, uMvezo, which was the birthplace of the celebrated South African and international icon, our former President, Nelson Mandela. The Festival will also be held on a momentous day, 18 July, which is celebrated as a Mandela Day – a day that calls on us, to make our world a better place.

The Annual Nelson Mandela Day Career Development Festival, which will be held under the theme, “Nelson Mandela Centenary 2018 – Be the Legacy,” will be addressed by the Minister of Higher Education and Training, Ms Naledi Pandor. It is expected to attract over 1000 grade 9, 10, 11 & 12 learners from uMthatha and the surrounding area.

The event will feature presentations and exhibitions from various institutions within the Higher Education sector in South Africa. The day will help equip learners with career-related information, including career development, bursary opportunities and learnerships.

DUT Student Recruitment Officer Michael Zulu, who will be part of the team representing DUT at the event, said that this was a good opportunity to showcase career opportunities offered by DUT to learners, who will be looking to apply and eventually register, at higher education institutions immediately or in the near future.

“We will be giving learners essential information on career prospects available at DUT, informing them of student residential accommodation requirements, assisting them with NSFAS questions and create awareness about the Central Applications Office which will enable them, to make the right choice, when they submit an application to study at DUT,” said Zulu.

Zulu added that this event was part of their engagements in the Eastern Cape. The DUT team will also engage in an extensive recruitment drive by visiting various local schools in uMthatha and surrounding the area, where they will be showcasing career opportunities offered by DUT. “We have already secured six schools to visit but we might get more schools before we return on Friday, 20 July,” added Zulu.
